What about all the walkers taking in the pristine beauty of that part of the park? And the noise of Mountain Dew fueled adventure riders resonating through the woods to the tender ears of Carillon neighbors! Aren’t we losing precious pristine land to alternate use?

I think she belongs to the guy who lives on the 2200 blk of Rosewood. He had a female German Shepherd penned up in his back yard for years. A couple of weeks ago, he said she’d gone missing.

I’m not sure there *are* any “qualifications,” as it relates to income. The VPI program was designed for lower-income families, but relatively few of them seem to use it, so the rest of us can. I know that my friends in Northside who are in the Holton district still send their kids to pre-K on-site, but this page divvies up the consolidated centers: http://web.richmond.k12.va.us/Programs/RegionalPreschoolLearningCenters.aspx
By the time the centers were consolidated, my older son was already at Munford (we live in southside) and the younger one just sorta went to Maymont. As for the rules, in my experience the process can be a little…capricious. Some folks seem to sail right through with no issues at all, and others run into roadblock after roadblock.
One thing I can say is that every single person I’ve encountered with RPS whose office is *not* in City Hall has been great.

We’d love to hear more about the schools. I’m finding researching into them so challenging. Being British I’m not even sure what age Joe will be going to school? Jason, how did you find out who qualifies for pre-k? coincidentally I looked at the qualification form today and got the impression we wouldn’t qualify. We’re on the 2400 so currently in Cary zone yet I feel like we’ll still try to lottery into Fox and Patrick Henry, but also I guess 2.5 years lots of things change.

The Maymont Preschool Center is wonderful! I have found it to be very welcoming and the teachers that we have experience with are experienced and professional. I would really encourage it’s use by our neighborhood! We chose to not send our daughter to Clark Springs. There was no diversity at Maymont when it was an elementary school, and they took the whole school and moved it into Clark Springs. Having taught for RPS, I am a but jaded towards some of the schools. We opted for Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts because I love that their focus is not just passing the SOLs which is what I saw with RPS schools.

Wow- I can’t believe they split up the neighborhood like that! We’re still a ways off from needing to worry about anything (kiddo’s got about 5 more years before he’ll be in school), but I’d be interested to hear back if anyone ended up going on a tour of Clark Springs.

How about if we arrange a tour of Clark Springs? My kids are zoned for there for elementary school. Although we’re pretty sure we’ll send them to Maymont for pre-k, we need more info on Clark Springs.

The 2100 and 2000 blocks of the “wood streets” go to Clark Springs and the 2200 and up blocks go to Cary. I would love for our whole neighborhood to be districted together!

This is great for Cary parents, but aren’t most of us slated to head to Clark Springs (at least those of us on the …wood streets)? I don’t know anything about this school… is there anyone out there that had their kid there that could comment on it?
Also- I heard that the city was going to redistrict to funnel more kids to Cary because it was underused. Does anyone know anything about that?

I’m so glad to have Mr. Geesebusters himself on here. Robert, talk to Marty Jewell and see what the City is interested in doing. It’s true, we don’t have consensus about whether we actually have a goose problem or not, but there’s probably some middle ground.

My question is, don’t we already have birds of prey circling over the lakes and all around Byrd Park? Or are the hawks we commonly see not big enough to deter the geese?

You don’t know too much about geese, the only thing that get rid of birds is an eagle its a natural predator of these birds, they fear this as real and will immediately flee a targeted area.Seeing is believing they say, http://www.geesebusters.com I will challenge any method out there.So get up the money.

The geese are a bit obnoxious but it wouldn’t really be a park if wildlife wasn’t there. I would rather have tax dollars spent on someone to clean off the paths although the VCU students that came up with this should patent immediately because I think their idea is way better than a big fake flying eagle.

It would be nice to be able to use the park without having to clean so much of it off of shoes, strollers, toys, etc. upon return. The whole swan lake area is an absolute mess.
