Richmond’s safest neighborhood

A recent story on nbc12 calls the area around Randolph Street “Richmond’s safest neighborhood”:

The neighborhood on Randolph Street looks like any other but it’s what you don’t see that makes it the most different. Illegal activity here is not only decreasing, but police have found it rivals other areas in metro Richmond.

“As far as violent crimes, it’s a minimum,” said Lt. Michael Stith with the Richmond Police Department. “This is probably one of the safest places in the city to be honest with you.”

The 1st Annual Gospel Music Fest with “The Belle” comes to Dogwood Dell on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 3-9PM. FREE!

“I’m a Richmond native, who grew up in Byrd Park. My weekends often included going to Dogwood Dell with family members and friends to see plays and concerts or enjoy the fireworks while standing around Fountain Lake. When I received the call to pull together a Gospel Event for my own city and to become this year’s guest producer, I was speechless,” says The Belle. “All I could think about were the endless opportunities I could provide for so many talented people who sing and dance before the Lord from Richmond throughout Virginia and beyond.”

Podium Live! puts high school literary talent on display

Richmond Public Schools high school students will be part of Podium Live!, a free performance and staged reading of the Podium Journal: Volume 2 at Dogwood Dell on Sunday, June 13 starting at 8PM. Come out and pick up your copy of the 2010 Podium Journal before it’s distributed in libraries, grocery stores, and bookstores throughout the city of Richmond.

Entering its second year, the Podium journal puts on citywide display the creative, non-fiction, and artistic work of RPS high school students. The works are created in classrooms across the city, and outside of class by the students themselves in five categories: short fiction, short memoir, op/ed, poetry, and illustration. [...] A student design team works with the VCU Brand Center to create the final look of the 4-color journal. The 100-120 page journal is published and distributed at no cost to all city high schools, and over fifteen thousand free copies are placed into the community.
