Touch a Truck, Saturday 9/15
If you don't get excited when you see a giant yellow backhoe, then you must not be a little kid. Diggers, as my boy calls them, are like mechanical dinosaurs on our city streets, only you can't climb on a dinosaur, and diggers aren't extinct. If you're not in construction, you probably only catch fleeting glimpses of the big rigs that move the earth, transporting our goods, and generally do the heavy lifting of development and public safety. At this year's Touch a Truck event, you and your kids can get up close and personal with bulldozers, cranes and forklifts as the behemoths collected at the Richmond International Raceway become amusement park rides for the little tykes. Don't miss it.
Junior League of Richmond Presents
7th Annual Touch a Truck
Put your imagination in gear and head to
Richmond International Raceway on September 15!
RICHMOND, VA—The Junior League of Richmond (JLR) is excitedly preparing for its annual Touch a Truck fun day at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early admission for a VIP Hour beginning at 9 a.m.
A display of giant vehicles – including construction trucks, tractor trailers, car carriers, fire trucks, police cruisers, ambulances, the Richmond Fun Bus, and a helicopter give plenty of reasons to spend a fall day at this family friendly event.
Mason Ayers, project manager for Liesfeld Contractors, Inc., noted that “for the past seven years, Liesfeld has partnered with the Junior
League to sponsor Touch a Truck as a means to educate the community about heavy construction equipment. Grown-ups and kids always enjoy the close-up experience with the heavy equipment.” Ayers also commented that Touch a Truck continues to grow each year and that Liesfeld “looks forward to another successful event.”
“We are excited to bring together local businesses and neighbors from across the community for this family-friendly event,” said Ashley Kuemmerle, Touch a Truck Committee Chair. “Participation and support from the community is what makes this event so spectacular. So to all of our sponsors, donors, and families, we thank you!”
Beyond touching trucks, kids can jump in a bounce house, high-five Nutzy the Squirrel, dance to their favorite songs, play games to win prizes, watch exhibitors on stage, enjoy crafts, and enjoy a variety of food vendors. And, there’s plenty to see and do for the moms and dads as there will be an array of vendors for shopping and raffle packages ranging from “Family Fun Day,” “Date Night,” “Dads Day Out,” and “Mom’s Retreat.”
The Junior League of Richmond invites the community-at-large to participate in Touch a Truck for a cost of $5 per ticket, which can be purchased online at www.jlrichmond.org, by calling 804-643-4887, or day-of at the ticket sales booth. Family four packs (non-VIP) are also available in advance for $15 and our highly acclaimed VIP hour will occur from 9-10 a.m. and VIP tickets are $10/ticket or four (4) tickets for $35.
So, grab your camera, hit the ATM, and come out to have some fun while helping the Junior League of Richmond raise funding for its community programming, such as Kids in the Kitchen, Good Sports, and Families First. What better way to spend the day? Climb. Learn. Explore. TOUCH!
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday! Thanks for your support!
