Help with National Night Out

An invitation to pitch in (and part) as a community:

Hello!

National Night Out or “NNO” as some of you may know it is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7th.
The Byrd Park Civic League  NNO is scheduled at the Round House from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and you are all invited of course!

First, a little back story you may not know. 
National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation.  Last year, the City of Richmond ranked in the top 10 among cities its size across the country for National Night Out participation.  The goal for 2012 is the top five.  Let's help the city reach that goal and make a great NNO event for the BPCL at the same time!

By the way, in the past, our event has been really fantastic!

You may or may not know that a great deal of work goes into the set-up, execution and clean-up for this very important event.

We want to thank the folks who already volunteered for NNO at the June meeting.  Your assistance is

Help is still required in the following areas:

Set-up – 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  (decorating, setup tables, other set-up)
5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Final Set-up before event (heat up food, set-up food, etc.)
Activities from 6 – 8:00 p.m.

Greet neighbors / hand out raffle tickets (hey – you get to sit here!)

Break down – 8 – 8:30 p.m.
We have always had several raffles or give-aways thanks to neighbors who ask businesses to donate gift cards.  If you know of a business that may donate a gift card, it would be great if you could ask for a gift card or food donation for the NNO event.  If we know in advance we provide an acknowledgement in the August newsletter (or later newsletter.)  If you're not sure if we already have asked a business, call Katy 400-0260 or Jolanda 513-2632

Also, this year we have decided to possibly have a blow-up slide for the kiddies instead of a bounce house.  We did not have good luck with volunteers to watch the bounce house last year.  Because of this such a feature is a liability.  If you would be interested specifically in “manning” the inflated slide this year, please let us know.  Otherwise, we may not be able to provide it.
