Questions for Candidate Shewmake?
We ran a pretty popular interview with 5th district candidate, David Gammino, a little while back. After that, we took your questions for incumbent council person, Marty Jewell (still waiting on his responses). Now, let’s come up with a list of questions for Lee Shewmake, the candidate from the North Bank of the James. Please post your civic-minded queries, polite bones to pick, and political discourse here, and I’ll get responses as to them all at once, as soon as possible.
Given that Jewell has a specific and solid base, and has been able to win re-election numerous times when opposition has split the vote, has Shewmake given any though to dropping out of the race and supporting the better financed candidate?
How does she hope to improve on her 3rd place 19% run last time?

You are correct that Marty has a wide base and is the man to beat, which is my primary objective and one I am much better equipped to do than Mr. Gammino. I seem to remember a certain Mayoral candidate who was showered with money, yet failed to be elected, so money alone clearly is not enough. In 2008, I received 19% of the vote, the first time out of the gate and with about $4000 in cash. An amazing showing that received attention from several state Delegates. (Recall that Persinger’s show in a 3 way with Jewell & Brandon resulted in 1% of the vote.) Since then, I have expanded my civic activities and developed a strong campaign strategy. My credentials are solid as is my reputation, which surpass the gentlemen by a fair margin.
