Skateboarding Showdown at the Roundhouse, 2/15
Tonight at 7pm, Byrd Park’s Roundhouse will host a meeting between groups concerned over skate parks and skateboarders’ rights. Actually, judging by this story on the Hills and Heights blog, the issue may come down to a back and forth between Parks and Rec representatives and skateboarders themselves (flanked by a convoy of idle police officers). The issue of skating and public property is a persistent one wherever there are teens and cement and metal coping at just the right height to land an ollie kickflip. Hopefully, the two groups will come to some agreement about the public interest and people’s right to recreation. If you’re interested, it’s open to the public.

“Showdown” is probably a bit of an overstatement. Parks & Rec. met with the skaters last week, which led to this week’s meeting. I believe there’s going to be some consensus between the neighborhood, the skaters and P&R.
You got me, Chip. But who’s gonna click on “consensus”? Yeesh. I feel like a sleezy tabloid now.
Also, “ollie kickflip” is not proper skateboarding grammar. It is just “kickflip” You also don’t need metal coping to do a kickflip.
I was hoping someone would chime in to correct the terminology. Be glad I didn’t try to name-drop Natas Kaupas. Oh, wait. I just did. I’m more of a Christian Hasoi kinda fanboy, tho (dating myself now).
If that cement is banked at all, it becomes a “kickflop.”
definitely not a showdown…hoping we are making good progress so all can be heard and valued!
I think that would be Hosoi…just sayin’
