Questions for City Council Candidate Gammino
I’m hoping to interview the lawyer/developer turned 5th district Richmond City Council candidate, David Gammino. He’s friended me on Facebook, and I obliged. But, don’t take that to mean that I’ll be serving up softballs. Our representatives’ intentions and motives need to be scrutinized from multiple angles. Short of putting on 317 candidate debates as we’re seeing on the national scene, let’s get our Maymont, Randolph, Carillon, and Byrd Park relevant questions answered, starting with David Gammino.
Please post your question(s) with a comment. I’ll compile them and find out how the candidate wants to proceed.
What are Mr. Gammino’s views on the City accepting the payment of old debt on the downtown expressway system instead of gaining full ownership of the expressway system in about a decade? Also what would be the wisest use of the $60 million the city is now sitting on?
Since we’ve been talking so much about schools lately, I’d love to get his opinion on which redistricting plan(s) he supports and would he be supportive of changing the district lines so the whole neighborhood is included together? If I come up with other questions, I’ll chime in here again.
This is great! Keep’em coming.

Here are three hard balls that Mr. Gammino’s backers would prefer that you ignore:
• Before Mr. Gammino started his own business in 2005, did he work for Justin French, who is now serving 16 years in prison for a tax credit scheme?
• In 2005, did the Virginia State Bar admonish Mr. Gammino for misconduct in five cases; one of which involved depositing unearned legal fees into a trust account and maintaining an appropriate account ledger; plus four cases involving violations of ethical rules that govern competence, diligence, communication, and supervision of nonlawyer assistants?
• Does Mr. Gammino have a business or political relationship with any member of the Fulton Hill Partnership, which wants to use the City Stadium property for development?
