Community Garden Update
The community gardening effort targeted for Winthrop Hall’s property met this past weekend. Here are the results:
Hi there Byrd Park neighbors!
We had a great meeting last night and really got down to business with dividing up some of the responsibilities to get this garden going. Here is a list of the things to do and who has signed up to do them so far:
1. Website development: Hayley DeRoche (with consultation by Jason Guard)
2. Cost estimating/pricing: Ryan Rinn and Joyce Buchholz
3. Fundraising/Donation gathering: Emily Francis, Ruth Morrison (Ruth wasn’t present at the meeting, but she was signed up by her friend Emily ;)
4. Creating signage: Meg Haden and John Bourgeois
5. Planning the children’s garden/sand box area: Leslie Hartman (with consulation by April Kennedy and Anne Worthington–thanks, girls!)
6. Planning the compost system/area: Emily Francis
7. Publicity to the neighborhood: Patrick DeRoche (office supply store connection), Mary Clarke Bourgeois, Leslie Hartman, Jesse Wright
8. Plan fill material for raised beds: Jesse Wright will help but OPEN to others to volunteer
9. Develop contracts (b/t the garden and Winthrop Manor): OPEN
(b/t renters and the garden): Emily Francis
10. Organize volunteers for the groundbreaking day: John Bourgeois, Jesse Wright, Leah Eldredge, Hayley DeRoche
11. Pursue nonprofit status/umbrella organization: Leslie Hartman (Tricycle), John Bourgeois (talk to John West)If you were not at the meeting and would be willing to volunteer for one or more of these committees, please let me know ASAP. Thanks so much!
