Parents: Meet Your School Board Rep
Fifth District School Board representative, Maurice Henderson, has agreed to meet with constituents on Friday, October 8th at 5pm at Clark Springs Elementary. This meeting started small, with just a few parents and interested citizens voicing interest in a discussion of the changing elementary school options in the area, but it is open to the public. There will be lots to talk about with Maymont now featuring several area’s schools’ pre-school programs, Clark Springs now carrying both schools’ students, and the Patrick Henry charter school now open. If you’d like to attend, we’re trying to keep a headcount, so please RSVP to info@byrdpark.net.

You mean Saturday, the 9th?
My mistake. Fixed that. It’s Friday.
Do Your Kids Walk to School? October is Walk to School Month

I can’t make it due to a prior conflict, but I’d love to know his answers to a couple of questions:
Why were we told that Clark Springs could easily absorb Maymont’s staff and students, yet a great number of Maymont transfers now teach in trailers? Trailers which aren’t allowed to have TVs, computers or any other technology, by the way. And if they were just going to slap down a bunch of trailers anyway, why was a fully-functioning computer lab (which is increasingly rare in RPS these days) removed entirely to create ONE classroom? That’s right, Clark Springs has NO computer lab any more!
I’d love to hear Mr. Henderson’s response to these questions.
I’ll get your questions to him via email and relay what I hear back.
[...] Park has word of a meet-up with 5th District Fifth District School Board representative Maurice Henderson: [...] has agreed [...]
From Maurice Henderson:
RPS has not installed any new trailers in over 5 years, and the trailers at Clark Springs were being used last year. It is true that our space utilization has improved as we consolidated into Clark Springs. As I have visited teachers across RPS they have expressed a preference for having a bank of computers available in their classrooms, and I have heard them express the same desire at Clark Springs. In addition, they see the value of having the adjacent labs converted to classroom space to allow one to one, and small group instruction conveniently located. What the teachers desire, and the administration is working to accomplish, is the hookup of the available PCs and other technologies in their classrooms.
