Local Schools Measure Up…?
The Virginia Department of Education has released it’s Standards of Learning (SOL) report and all Richmond schools have been accredited. Nonetheless, considering the low percentage of parents sending their children to their zoned public school, Richmond Public Schools still need community input and support. There are plenty of families in this area are affected by the closing of Maymont Elementary School and the shift of Maymont’s zone to route students to Clark Springs Elementary. Many parents have questions.

Anyone interested in a neighborhood meeting with our 5th district School Board representative, Maurice Henderson, please say so with an email to byrdpark@gmail.com and you will be invited once a time/place is settled.

A couple people have contacted me about attending a meeting with our local school board rep. If you’re interested, please email byrdpark@gmail.com ASAP.
Should you get a chance to meet with Mr. Henderson, perhaps you could ask him why we were told Clark Springs had the capacity to absorb Maymont’s faculty & students, yet a large number of ex-Maymont teachers are relegated to trailers brought in specifically to accommodate the added population. And perhaps you could also ask him why the teachers who are relegated to these trailers were told they could not have computers, televisions or any other technology in those trailers.
I wish you good luck, as he showed little interest in answering related questions when the Maymont/Clark Springs situation was announced in the spring.
