The Merits of the Vita Course

The Enrichmond site has some good things to say about the Vita Course in Byrd Park: I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent amount of people, both young and old, getting a workout on the course. The 1 mile course consists of a variety of activity challenges including monkey bars, rope climbing, and more. [...]

Fallen Tree in Byrd Park. WARNING: BEES!

A tree near the Round House brought down by a recent thunderstorm provides a spectacle and a danger to onlookers. The majestic elm (oak?) tulip poplar appears to contain an active bee hive somewhere in its rubble. Anyone who lingers near the tree too long will notice angry bees buzzing and swarming around them. More [...]

There’s an interesting trivia question up at RVAnews: True or False: The boundary of Byrd Park, located at the southern end of The Boulevard in the city, includes the Carillon and Dogwood Dell. You can answer in the comments if you want to debate it publicly, but only prompt responders at the RVAnews link will [...]

Robbery in the Carillon

From a neighbor in the Carillon neighborhood: I just wanted to give a neighborly heads up about a recent robbery in the Carillon. We live on Rueger St. beside John B. Cary Elementary School. Our detached garage that was locked with a pad lock was broken into either today during the day or last night. [...]

The Empty Lots Have Changed Hands

These overgrown lots on the west side of Meadow Street look to have sold. Recently, we’ve speculated about who owns them and who’s letting poison ivy grow out onto the sidewalk from the lots. Now, the question is: What’s going to become of them and when will they begin to see some basic upkeep? (if [...]

A Great Party in Byrd Park

Arts are Always in the Park

From neighbor, Peggy Lynch: For many the phrase “Arts In The Park” conjures up visions of a weekend in May when hundreds of artisans and craftsmen descend upon the Carillon with their twig furniture, handmade jewelry and brightly;y painted canvases. But we denizens of Byrd Park have the good fortune of living among works of art, both [...]

A New Approach at National Night Out

The annual neighborhood get together known as National Night out is coming up on Tuesday, August 3rd, from 6-8, this time at the Round House (instead of a block party in the street) and rumor has it, there will be a moon bounce (for the kids). Only those who have their coupon from the Civic [...]

Meadown Steet’s Poison Ivy Infestation

Meadow Street’s overgrown empty lots that received some attention here recently are sending tendrils of poison ivy spilling out onto Meadow Street sidewalk. The property is up for auction, but responsibility for the upkeep is a matter of speculation.  Is it The Virginia Home? RRHA? Maybe that auction company could step up and pitch in?  [...]
