3rd Precinct Crime Report for June
The June crime report from the Richmond Police Department is posted below. For those who scrutinized last month’s report. We saw a 250% increase in robberies (from 2 to 7 in the 3rd precinct). This month, there were another seven robberies, which is the same number seen in June 2009. However, the other categories may be of greater interest. Read on and contribute your thoughts:

Sunday, June 11, 2010, 0107 hours
500 N. Mulberry Street
The victims were walking southbound when they were passed by both suspects who were walking northbound. After passing several feet beyond the victims the suspects turned around and ran back toward them. Suspect #1 approached the female victim, grabbed her, threw her onto the ground and stole her purse. Suspect #2 tackled the male victim and held him on the ground preventing him from helping the female. After the robbery both suspects ran northbound on N. Mulberry and into the alley.

Sunday, June 20, 2010, 0413 hours – ARESST MADE
1200 Park Avenue
The victims were walking near the intersection of N. Morris and Park Avenue when they were approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and told the male victim, “Give me your wallet.” The victim complied and the suspect pointed the gun at the female victim and demanded her purse; she complied as well. After the robbery the suspect ran westbound on Park Avenue.
Suspect:
Armed w/ black/silver-colored handgun
B/M, 19-21 years old, 5’6-5’8”, 120-130 pounds, corn-row style hair

Sunday, June 20, 2010, 2320 hours– ARESST MADE
1704 Park Avenue
The victim was getting into his car and talking on his cell phone when he was approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and said,
“Give me your wallet, give me your wallet.” The victim complied and threw his wallet on the ground. The suspect picked up the wallet and ran southbound on Vine Street. He was last seen getting into the passenger side of a dark-colored SUV that drove southbound on Vine Street.Suspect:

Monday, June 21, 2010, 0414 hours– ARESST MADE
1600 Monument Avenue
The victim was walking eastbound on Monument when he was approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and said, “Give me your cell phone and empty your pockets.” The victim complied. After the robbery the suspect told the victim to run. The suspect was last seen running westbound on Monument.

Monday, June 21, 2010, 0427 hours
2500 Floyd Avenue
The victim was walking in the 2500 block of Floyd Avenue when he was approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and said, “Give me your wallet.” The victim yelled and made noise scaring the suspect away. After the attempted robbery the suspect ran eastbound on Floyd.

Monday, June 21, 2010, 2345 hours
2601 W. Broad Street
The victim pulled up to the drive-thru teller machine at “Bank of America” to make a night deposit when the suspect approached her car and hit the driver side window with a blunt object several times. As the window shattered the suspect said to the victim, “Give it up. Give it up.” The victim threw the deposit bags at the suspect who took them and ran southbound toward the alley.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 2359 hours
1435 W. Main Street
The victims were walking east on W. Main Street when they were approached by the suspect who displayed a handgun and had his face covered with a towel. The suspect demanded the victims’ belongings and they gave him their wallets, purses and electronics. After the robbery the suspect ran eastbound on W. Main Street.

Unknown suspect entered residence and stole an electronic game system and a back pack. No signs of forced entry; front window possibly left unlocked.
1106 W. Franklin Street
Wednesday, June 9, 0500 – 0530 hours
Unknown suspect entered the residence by forcing open the rear door; nothing was stolen.
1261 W. Cary Street
Thursday, June 17, 2000 hours – Friday, June 18, 0800 hours
Unknown suspect entered residence and stole a lap top computer. No signs of forced entry; front window possibly left unlocked.

Monday, May 31, 2230 hours – Tuesday, June 1, 0145 hours
Unknown suspect kicked open front door and stole lap top computer.

Wednesday, June 9, 2200 – 2315 hours
Unknown suspect kicked open front door and stole lap top computer. Suspect was seen by victim running out the front door carrying the lap top.

Wednesday, June 9, 1800 hours – Thursday, June 10, 1430 hours
Unknown suspect entered residence and stole an I-Pod, a digital camera and several DVD’s. No signs of forced entry; front door possibly left unlocked.

Tuesday, June 15, 2146 hours
Unknown suspect entered residence by kicking open the front door and stole a flat-screen television.
1411 Claiborne Street
Thursday, June 17, 2000 hours – Saturday, June 19, 1545 hours
Unknown suspect entered residence by breaking open the rear window and stole three (3) televisions and cash. The suspect also committed an act of vandalism inside the apartment.
1228 Wallace Street
Sunday, June 20, 0000 hours – Monday, June 21, 0406 hours
Unknown suspect entered residence by breaking open the front window next to the front door and stole two (2) televisions.
1101 Randolph Street
Sunday, June 20, 0215 – 0329 hours
Unknown suspect attempted to enter the residence by forcing open the front door. No entry was made; nothing stolen.
1605 Idlewood Avenue
Tuesday, June 22, 2000 – 2250 hours
Unknown suspect entered the residence by breaking open the front window and stole a lap top computer, two (2) digital cameras and jewelry.

Suggestions to help prevent home burglaries:
Habitually lock all doors and windows; including second-floor windows.
Keep all points-of-entry to your home well lit.
Motion sensors on outdoor lights are an inexpensive deterrent and easy to install.
Use curtains or blinds to cover any windows
or doors that are easy to see into.
Write down the descriptions of any suspicious vehicles and/or persons you see in your neighborhood and report that information to the police.
Join your neighborhood civic association
and become an active member.
SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS/ACTIVITY
June 9
Officers Geiger and Dixon responded to the 500 block of S. Harrison reference a call for a party and loud music. When the officers arrived they smelled a faint odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence. The officers searched for marijuana, but found none. However, the officers determined who the host of the party was and he was arrested for violation of the City’s noise ordinance.
June 10
Two occupied apartment properties, one in the 1400 block of Grove Avenue and another in the 1100 block of Franklin, were deliberately set on fire. Officers Raina and Williams as well as members of the Fire Investigation Team (F.I.T.) responded to the scene. They alerted the residents and led them out of the buildings helping to prevent any injuries. The F.I.T. conducted preliminary and follow-up investigations and were able to quickly identify the suspect. As a result, the suspect was arrested on June 13 in the 500 block of N. Harrison and charged with two counts of arson. He is currently incarcerated awaiting an August court hearing.
June 11
Officers Melton and Johnson responded to the 300 block of S. Meadow in response to a citizen’s call for a known drug dealer walking in the area dealing drugs. When the officers approached the suspect he ran and threw a bag into some nearby bushes. The officers caught up to the male and stopped him. The officers retrieved the bag the suspect threw and found illegal drugs inside. The suspect was arrested and searched and found to be in possession of a digital scale with drug residue on it. As a result, the suspect was arrested on felony and misdemeanor drug charges.
June 11
Officers Neale and Waldorf saw two individuals sitting at the bus stop in the 1100 block of W. Grace Street drinking beer. The officers stopped and wrote both suspects misdemeanor summonses for possession of open alcohol containers in public.
June 13
Officers Williams and Marte were patrolling the area of Grove and Vine when they saw a male and female arguing. The officers approached the couple and found that the female was trying to get the male to stand up and walk home. The officers observed the male and determined that he was unable stand up and too intoxicated to speak without slurring his words. As a result, the male was arrested for public intoxication. A further check of the suspect revealed he had two outstanding warrants on file for his arrest.
June 15
Members of the Focus Mission Team (F.M.T.) responded to the 2100 block of W. Cary Street reference a complaint of drugs being sold from inside of an apartment. The officers made contact with the suspect and were given permission to search the residence. During their search the officers found evidence of illegal drug distribution including illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and digital scales. As a result, the suspect was arrested on several felony drug charges.
June 17
Officer Fields responded to the 1900 block of W. Main Street reference a call for a vandalism in-progress. When the officer arrived in the area he found the suspect walking in the 2100 block of W. Cary Street bleeding from his right hand. The officer stopped the suspect and determined that he had just punched out the store front window of a nearby business. The officer arranged medical assistance for the suspect before arresting him for property damage.
June 19
Officer Truong responded to the 1200 block of W. Cary Street reference to a male passed out on the porch of an apartment. The male had a strong odor of alcohol about his person, was unable to speak coherently and could not stand up, so the officer arrested him for public intoxication.
June 21
Officers Ronan, Williams and Kiniry responded to the 00 block of S. Rowland reference to a female breaking into parked cars. The officers located a suspect carrying a large bag that matched the description given by the caller. The officers stopped the suspect and determined that items in her bag had been stolen from several nearby vehicles. The suspect was arrested and searched and found to be in possession of illegal drugs. As a result, she was charged with felony larceny and felony possession of drugs.
June 26
At approximately 11:30 p.m. Officer Fields observed two males trespassing in the parking lot of North Bank Park. Officer Fields determined the males had no legitimate business on the property, so he arrested both of them for misdemeanor trespass.
