Byrd Park Pump House tour next week
The Quoit Club is sponsoring a tour of the Byrd Park Pump House on Thursday, July 15th at 6PM.
The site is a wonderfully executed late 19th-century example of the Gothic Revival style, applied to a municipal industrial building whose purpose was to house the Richmond city waterworks. The building, which served as the city’s waterworks from 1883 until 1924, pumped water uphill from the canals to the Byrd Park Reservoir, the city’s main water supply. The Pump House was also a popular gathering place in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and features a full-size dance floor on the upper level. Enjoy refreshments at the Pump House with representatives of Friends of the James River.
Afterwards, please join us at F.W. Sullivan’s Fan Bar & Grille located at the corner of Main Street and Stafford Avenue for a fun Quoit Club after party. Appetizers and drink specials will be available.
The Pump House is located at 1708 Pump House Dr. Richmond, VA, 23227. Approaching from the north, Pump House Drive is on the right immediately before the Nickel Bridge Toll Plaza.
Free for Members | $15 for nonmembers
Please Note: This is primarily an outside event so please dress comfortably and wear appropriate shoes. Also, there are very limited bathroom facilities (one Port-a-John) available onsite.
