What’s Up with Columbus?
A concerned reader wrote in asking about the scaffolding around the Christopher Columbus statue at Boulevard and Blanton. In years past, the bronze Columbus was vandalized with red paint, presumably to symbolize his role in the mass-murder and subjugation of millions of Native-Americans. Nothing so provocative is going on this time around. As usual, The Boulevardizen has the scoop (and a cooler pic). The statue is being restored to repair weather damage.

I think I prefer him with red hands
Thanks for the update! Was wondering if maybe they were enlarging his head so that it was a more appropriate size or something. Next Christmas, we might renegade putting a santa hat on him.
Just another example of all the wonderful work being done throughout the city by Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities – this time with the Department of Public Works.
