If you have small children…

…you should be thankful for this playground on Idlewood.  For Byrd Park residents, it’s just a 1-3 block walk.

The structure sits on property owned by Sixth Baptist Church on Addison. The City bears no responsibility for this playground and the church doesn’t make use of it very often. So, those of us in the neighborhood are lucky to have a place to watch our kids play while snacking on goodies from the West End Market, or sandwiches, coffee, and donuts from Lamplighter. Please remember to clean up after yourselves at the playground so toddlers don’t pick up trash and put it in their mouths.

To sweeten the deal of a free place to play right here in our neighborhood, someone has left a mini soccer goal in the grassy lot behind the West End Market. Many people use this fenced in spot as a makeshift dog park, while others have inquired with the owners, Sixth Baptist Church, about using it as a community garden. However, for the meantime, it’s the closest soccer field around. Enjoy.
