Violent Crime: 20% decrease

The locations and/or suspect descriptions involving the two (2) robberies of individuals that occurred in March are listed below:

Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 1915 hours – ARREST MADE

1809 Hampton Street

The victim was jogging wearing headphones when he was attacked from behind by the suspect who repeatedly punched him and pushed him into a parked car. During the assault the suspect took the victim’s iPod and ran from the scene eastbound toward Kansas Avenue. A short time later an officer stopped an individual matching the suspect’s description in the 1800 block of Colorado Avenue. Detectives brought the victim to the scene of where the suspect was stopped and the victim positively identified the suspect as the robber. The suspect was arrested and charged with robbery. A search of the suspect incident to his arrest revealed the victim’s iPod in the suspect’s pants pocket.

Friday, March 26, 2010, 2210 hours

1101 W. Main Street

The victim was walking through the “7-11” parking lot when he was tackled from behind by suspect #1. While holding the victim on the ground suspect #1 told suspect #2 to find and take the victim’s wallet. Suspect #2 took the victim’s wallet and cell phone. After the robbery the suspects ran west in the alley, got into a dark-colored vehicle and drove away, last seen turning onto Morris Street.

B/M, 20-25 years old, 5’10”, 160-170 pounds

last seen wearing: fitted baseball cap, purple shirt, blue jeans

Suspect #2:

B/F, 20-25 years old, 5’6”, 120-0130 pounds

last seen wearing: red head scarf, pink jacket, pink sweatshirt, dark jeans, black shoes

Suspect vehicle:

Late ’90’s model Chevrolet, dark-colored (possibly blue)

Sunday, March 7, 0217 -0221 hours

Known suspect entered apartment through the kitchen window and committed an act of vandalism.

2604 W. Grace Street

Thursday, March 25 – Wednesday, March 31, 0800 – 0800 hours

Unknown suspect forced open the basement door and stole several power tools.

1108 W. Franklin Street

Saturday, March 27, 0100 – 0925 hours

Unknown suspect entered apartment and stole flat panel television. No signs of forced entry.

1612 Lakeview Avenue

Friday, March 12, 1201 hours – March 21, 0225 hours

Unknown suspect forced open the front door and stole a computer printer.

502 Bethany Drive

Sunday, March 14, 2308 hours

Unknown suspect forced open the front door and stole jewelry. Suspect was seen leaving the residence.

Suspect description:

B/M, 5’10” – 6’2”, 170-200 pounds

last seen wearing: burgundy jersey with yellow sleeves and blue jean shorts

1505 Wallace Street

Saturday, March 27, 1930 – 2215 hours

Unknown suspect threw a brick through the window of the rear door, unlocked same and stole three (3) laptop computers and an iPod.

Maymont Neighborhood:

1509 S. Meadow Street

Friday, March 12, 2250 hours – Saturday, March 13, 0730 hours

Unknown suspect forced open the front door and stole a digital camera and jewelry.

1705 Colorado Avenue

Tuesday, March 30, 1810 hours

Unknown suspect entered apartment through the rear window and stole a flat panel television and two (2) DVD players.

Byrd Park Neighborhood:

1300 S. Meadow Street

Saturday, March 13, 1715 – 1802 hours

Unknown suspect threw a brick through the rear sliding glass door and ransacked the residence; nothing was reported stolen.

Future Focus/Strategies:

Continue directed-patrol assignments. Maintain high visibility with bike and walking officers in and around the Fan, Randolph, Maymont and Byrd Park neighborhoods. Distribute crime-prevention literature and conduct surveys of lighting and other environmental conditions on blocks where burglaries have occurred.

SIGNIFICANT ARRESTS/ACTIVITY

March 3

Officers Melton and Johnson responded to the 1800 block of Idlewood Avenue reference to a citizen complaint of two females in a vehicle using drugs. The officers located the vehicle and caught the suspects smoking marijuana. As a result, both suspects were arrested for drug possession and one of the females was also found to be wanted in Chesterfield County for failing to appear in court.

March 9

Officers responded to the area of Grove and Lombardy for a hit-and-run accident that involved several parked cars. Officer Kiniry circulated the area and found a vehicle in the 1700 block of Floyd Avenue with heavy damage to the front end and missing a front tire. A subsequent investigation resulted in the suspect being located in a nearby residence where he was arrested and charged with three (3) counts of hit-and-run.

March 10

Two graffiti “artists” pleaded guilty to a total of thirteen (13) counts of property damage in Richmond General District Court. The sentence for one suspect who was responsible for the graffiti tag of “PLAGE” included; three (3) days in jail, $800 in restitution to be paid for damages done to both private and public property and three-hundred (300) hours of community service. The sentence for the suspect who was responsible for the graffiti tag of “PANKO” included; ten (10) days in jail, over $3,000 in restitution to be paid for damages done to both private and public property and five-hundred (500) hours of community service. The community service hours for both suspects will include working with the Department of Public Works removing graffiti from property throughout the City.

March 12

Officers responded to the 00 block of S. Davis reference a domestic assault. The victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend during an argument in which he broke her cell phone, choked her and put his cigarette out on her forehead. The suspect was gone when the officers arrived, but they obtained a warrant for his arrest. Two days later the suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

March 17

Detectives with the Special Investigation Division culminated a street-level drug investigation by executing a search warrant in the 1100 block of S. Allen Avenue. As a result, the suspect was served with a felony drug indictment and the detectives seized a 9mm handgun and over $2,000 dollars.

March 17

Officers with the Focus Mission Team executed a drug search warrant in the 00 block of S. Addison Street. As a result, the officers seized over two (2) pounds of marijuana and a digital scale. Two suspects were charged with felony attempt to distribute marijuana.

March 25

Officers arrested a suspect for property damage after catching him carving his initials into a tree in Byrd Park. A further check revealed he was wanted by police in reference to seven (7) felony indictments involving forgery and grand larceny.

March 27

Officer Morley received information that a wanted suspect was in the area of the 2700 of W. Main Street. She and other officers circulated the area and located the suspect right where the tipster said he would be. As a result, the suspect was taken into custody without incident and served with two warrants; one for possession of marijuana and another for possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony.

March 28

Officer Kenny stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of Blair Street for illegal window tint. During the stop the officer observed marijuana in plain view. The driver was arrested and his vehicle was searched. Over one-hundred-twenty-four (124) grams of marijuana packaged for street sale was found. As a result, the driver was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute as well as illegal window tint and driving on a suspended license.

March 28

Officer Morley received information that a suspect wanted for burglary in Henrico County was in the area of the 500 block of S. Meadow Street. Officer Morley located the suspect, arrested him and transported him to Henrico police. This arrest is significant because the arrest of a known burglar could help reverse a recent increase of residential burglaries in the Byrd Park neighborhood.
