Community Give Away: Blueberry Bushes

Potential regular feature: Do you have anything that you don’t know what to do with, but you suspect that the neighborhood could use it? Here’s an example: We were given three blueberry bushes, but we’ve got no space for them in the yard and no idea what piece of nearby public land makes the most sense. Maybe one of you could use them or know where these blueberry bushes could do the most good. If so, speak up with a comment. In fact, feel free to use the comments section to talk about seasonal planting issues in general.
If you have anything you’d like to try to give away, you can add that as a comment here, or you can email your idea to info(at)byrdpark(dot)net and we’ll use it for an upcoming installment of this feature.

I would like to plant those in my alley.
Kinda hoping to keep’em in the neighborhood. Purely selfish reasons. I want to visit them with my son or while walking the dogs. But, if they don’t go by this weekend…
I’ve been clearing brush at 2308 Idlewood to create a garden and hopefully community garden. I think the bushes could make a great natural barrier on the Grayland side of the plot.
Jay, you have a deal. I dropped you an email. When can we get these in these guys in the ground?
Everybody: Do you have anything to give? If it’s plants, it’s probably a good time to get started.
The soil needs to be prepped for blueberry conditions which can be accomplished by Monday.
I also hope to have beets planted and cutting garden beds begun by midweek.
If anyone has excess lumber or paving stones to build terraces please let me know. Thanks to everyone who takes part in the gardens incipiency
This is the way a community should work. I love the idea of sharing and recycling green items. Glad the blueberries will have a new home in our neighborhood. Kudos to all.
