Highlights from the Past BPCL Meeting
35-40 people attended the most recent Byrd Park Civic League meeting, but only 15 people signed in. For future notice, membership is not required for attendance and attendees who sign in get added to the BPCL email list (very very low traffic – not an email burden at all). Here are some highlights of the 2/13 Byrd Park Civic League Meeting, provided by BPCL President, Kim Mullooly…
Community Garden –Sherry Williams (Virginia Home) and Sean Sheppardson (Backyard Farmer) discussed plans for community garden on a piece of property in the park near the Virginia Home. Tentative plans have the garden ready for August planting.
Graffiti speaker – Karl Huber gave a educational presentation on different products available to remove graffiti and the proper steps to take before graffiti is removed. One important point to remember is to take pictures and send it to Dept. of Public Works. Offenders are often required to pay restitution and perform community service and if they have caught the offender of your graffiti tag they may have to remove it as part of their restitution.
If you see Graffiti in progress call 911 and report it. To have it removed call the Graffiti Hotline 646-1406. A Graffiti Removal release form is required for removal on Private Property.Zoning permit for Lakeview – the infill property has been rezoned for a 3-4 bdrm duplex with two off street parking spaces per unit. Plans for the unit have been requested to be presented at the April 10th meeting.
- New Byrd Park Civic League ByLaws were adopted after the originals could not be located.
- A membership drive was conducted and membership forms for the League were distributed throughout the neighborhood. If you would like to join and did not receive a form please call 740-1639 and leave the address where you would like a form delivered.
A plant swap is planned after the April 10th meeting so start some seeds today! Bring any garden materials (pots/tools/water cans) and/or plants to participate. More to come on this event.

Hi. I’m interested in the plant swap, and I’m wondering if that is something that is open to the public? Is that something that I could mention on our Facebook page or blog about? Thank you.
