For those of you not following me on Twitter, here's what happened with my first 5k race. I brought our 2 y.o. and his jogging stroller to give mom a break. As soon as we assembled to run (150+) people, it started to snow (just flurries). I ran and darted in and out of the crowd, jostling the baby a little. He whimpered, but I kept going. Eventually, he was just plain crying. We stopped. I thought I soothed him. I ran some more and the crying came again. I held him and then put him back in the stroller and ran again. The baby got really upset, this time making it clear he wasn't going to stop crying without a change of scene. We abandoned the race, probably halfway through, and went home to mama. He didn't stop crying for another 30 minutes.

Still pining for a full 5k, I've signed up for one in Short Pump on 2/27. Ironically, it's a benefit for Stop Child Abuse Now. Yeesh, make me feel bad, why don't you?

I'll be doing the "Virginia is for Lovers" event in Virginia Beach on that day. I love short distance, close to home events, especially if they are walk-friendly (embarrassing, but that's how slow I run).

This got me thinking--maybe we could get some Byrd Park runners together weekly for a morning run around our neighborhood. I typically run at 6:45 am on Tuesdays. Anyone who wants to join me can meet at the corner of Maplewood and Shields--Starting Feb 9.
