Car Break-Ins on Rosewood Ave
2 Comments »From a concerned Byrd Parker:
I thought this merited a post on the blog. Last night my wife and I looked out our window and saw two guys trying to break into cars on the 2100 block of Rosewood. We called the police, and they later picked up one of the men rummaging through a vehicle. He had three Samsung cellphones on him and some Ipod accessories. The police are trying to find the owners of these items. If any of these items belong to you, you can contact the 3rd precinct at 646-1414. The officer I spoke with also urged residents of our neighborhood to be vigilant and keep valuables out of sight in your vehicles. They have picked this guy up before in this area, and it’s very likely he will be back again.
Has anyone else had items stolen from their car in the neighborhood? Any more advice for keeping your belongings safe and discouraging theft? Please post your thoughts on this in the comments section.

NICE JOB..JASON
There was also a car break-in on Rowland Ave at Maplewood early in the morning of 11/21. There had been an abandoned gold Lincoln Town Car parked there, without plates, for over two months. (The police had already responded twice and slapped those orange stickers on the windshield, however the City hadn’t towed the car yet.)
Anyway, around 12:30 am or so someone busted in the rear passenger window and rifled the car, setting off the alarm (inconveniently right below my window). The police (to their credit) promptly responded after calling 911, and within a half hour had a tow truck taking it off to the impound lot.
To add to what Jason said, I would say to keep an eye out for abandoned vehicles and don’t be shy about reporting them. Besides being visual blight and besides taking away our parking spaces, I’m thinking these cars could catch the eye of burglars as tempting targets. In this case my suspicion is the burglar deliberately targeted the Town Car, ignoring my car and the other cars on the street, because it was so obviously abandoned.
