National Night Out, but not here

This note comes from Michael Dodson, regarding Tuesday, Aug. 4:

“National Night Out is not happening in Byrd Park this year because of a lack of neighborhood support.  Neighbors are encouraged to leave their porch lights on and attend the Greater Randolph National Night Out at the Randolph Community Center.  The event starts at 6p.m.”

Sad to hear this. I just purchased a house here and was hoping to become part of an active home association. I notice this is a quiet site. Hopefully some interested folks (me included) can get things a bit more active.

wait… why aren’t we doing a Byrd Park national night out? When was there a rallying cry to the neighborhood for support?

How disappointing. I rearranged my schedule and even planned my potluck dish to bring to this event, which I missed last year (travelling) but the previous year met lots of great people. As an impromptu observance, can we all eat dinner on our front porches and then take walks to meet our neighbors?
